About the Position: The US Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, employs about 1,350 employees at projects and offices throughout a 700,000-square-mile area of the Missouri River Basin, from Rulo, Neb., to Fort Peck, Mont.     Duties

    Additional Duty Location Info:



    2 vacancies - NE - Omaha & Offutt AFB areas


    You will be responsible for the design of structural engineering features of work relating to civil and military projects utilizing computer aided design and drafting (CADD) systems and other software executed on engineering workstations or personal computers which includes features for military installations such as barracks, dining facilities, hospitals, hydrant fuel structures, family housing units, shops, large structural steel hangars, reinforced concrete outlet works for earthen dams, reinforced concrete conduits, plain and reinforced concrete retaining walls, highway bridges, railroad bridges, and outlet works service bridges (steel, wood, and concrete), tainter gates, overhead cranes, concrete stilling basins, residential buildings, etc. Perform periodic inspections of civil works flood control structures, and bridges. Maintain knowledge and skills of the District's CADD software, standard hardware technology so that maximum efficiency and production is achieved.

    General Schedule

  • Specialized Experience to qualify at the GS-11 grade level is further defined as experience to modify standard practices and adapt existing techniques to solve a variety of structural problems. Adapt previous designs as well as provide innovative approaches and technologies to new projects. Must be proficient in the use of the latest computer aided design (CADD) and Finite Element Analysis software in order to troubleshoot minor problems so that maximum production is achieved. BASIC EDUCATION: Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
