Climate Change & Security Intern
Salary: £13,334 pro rata (approximately £900 each month after tax)
Based: London
Duration: 4 months on a part time basis Funds permitting, this could develop into a full time permanent role, at a salary of at least £28,251 per annum. If so, the successful candidate of this (internship) post could also apply.
Interns work in our London offices and are provided with an allowance and the opportunity to gain experience in an international NGO – one of the leaders in its field.
We are looking for an Intern with a high degree of personal initiative and drive. Specifically you will support the Climate Change and Security Adviser on a research project which looks at the political, social and economic dimensions of climate resilience of communities in India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The role will include a significant amount of desk research and logistics and will offer the opportunities to gain experience working in an international NGO. This would be an excellent opportunity for a graduate or postgraduate student wishing to gain experience working in the NGO sector.
Specifically you will be required to: • Collect and collate data on climate change and human security indicators at district level on Nepal, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. • Liaise with in-country field partners in Nepal, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. • Assist with logistics for workshops and field visits. • Support with desk research, literature review, data analysis and report writing. • Assist with the preparation of financial and narrative reports and on-going project monitoring. • Assist with content development and management of materials for the International Alert and for South Asia Network on Security and Climate Change (SANSaC) website. • Support with the coordination of climate change and security roundtable dialogue meetings.
Excellent research and writing skills are essential so is your ability to produce high quality work and to tight deadlines.
