Disaster Response Program Development Manager (located in Atlanta, GA), Thursday 22, September 2011


HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL (HFHI) seeks an experienced professional to serve as the Manager of Disaster Response Program Development. This person will contribute to the strategic development of the disaster response department as well as serve Habitat for Humanity affiliated organizations in their work related to disaster risk reduction (DRR) and disaster response (DR). Primary focus is given to the elaboration of funding proposals for all projects and initiatives related to the DR department. This position also works with mission-aligned partners, the development of internal and external documentation on promising practices and sector-wide initiatives, and the strengthening of Habitat for Humanity DRR and DR field capacity.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Engaging Habitat for Humanity to peer agencies, networks, authorities, and the DR donor community *Serving as grants subject matter expert within Habitat for Humanity International DR department, leading the grant writing efforts as related to DRR and DR
*Serving as a grants subject matter expert on the Collaborative Donor Engagement SI task force
*Managing and promoting involvement of Habitat for Humanity International sector-wide evaluations and reviews vis-à-vis engagement in coalitions and consortiums *Managing and directing Habitat for Humanity reporting and evaluation compliance with grants in the area of DRR and DR *Building capacity of HFHI & HFH entities to design and implement disaster response programs *Managing and contributing to the on-going staff training of HFH personnel in areas of DRR and DR; facilitating sessions on DRR and DR for HFH staff at all levels
*Managing and contributing to the development of training materials and modules - with an emphasis on virtual training and on-line materials including but not limited to the use of HFHI’s intranet - in the areas of DRR and DR *Managing the effective use and constant improvement of HFH's Disaster Corps program, including but not limited to HFH's relationship with volunteers, deployment of the same, and database of volunteer certifications and trainings *Contributing to the development of HFH DRR and DR design, planning, monitoring & evaluation processes *Promoting and tracking the inclusion of HFH DRR and DR subject matter experts in sector trainings and events *Researching, identifying and disseminating disaster response promising practices and internationally-accepted standards throughout the entire HFH community *Managing and contribute to the development of case studies of HFH field work in both DRR and DR *Managing and contribute to HFH's engagement in sector papers, articles, guidelines and other publications *Managing and contribute to the development of cut sheets on promising practices based on HFH field experience *Ensuring that all evaluations and project reports are carried out as stipulated in DRR and DR grant agreements *Serving as a content manager within the DR publishing group in support of MyHabitat *Advancing the development of the global HFH DR leadership team and community of practice *Participating in and creating opportunities for on-going interactions with DR SMEs throughout the HFH network *Updating DR web page and keeping content current and engaging
REQUIREMENTS: *Bachelor's degree *10+ years of disaster risk management experience, including experience with governmental grant development, management and reporting *Technical writing and editing experience with disaster response issues *Strong communication, multi-tasking, research, and analysis skills *Capacity to integrate disaster response concepts into wider program ones and the ability to generate fresh ideas *Strong customer service skills required *Excellent organizational skills especially in the area of information management *Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Access and Publisher)
PREFERRED: *Master's degree *Knowledge of Habitat for Humanity operations
