Regional Researcher, Asia and Eastern Europe

PSI seeks a Regional Researcher for its Asia and Eastern Europe region to provide support to PSI’s global mission. The Regional Researcher will provide strategic leadership, capacity building support, and technical assistance for study design, data analysis, and dissemination to multiple PSI programs in the region and will be based in Bangkok, Thailand. The position reports to the Sr. Regional Research Advisor (Asia and Eastern Europe) with a dotted line reporting to the Deputy Director, Research & Metrics.
Responsibilities:
The regional researcher collaborates across PSI country platforms to:
  • Co-develop and review research monitoring and evaluation activities, including logframe development, study design, questionnaire development, data analysis, and dissemination

  • Train country-level researchers and build capacity to design studies, oversee data collection, and analyze/interpret/disseminate results

  • Work with country-level researchers to develop annual research portfolios and manage local research subcontractors

  • Support the design of quantitative studies to segment populations, monitor social marketing activities over time, and evaluate intervention effectiveness

  • Support the design of qualitative studies to generate insight into target audiences, design interventions, and improve quantitative instruments

  • Provide assistance to country research managers to analyze study data, write reports, and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders

  • Provide technical assistance to country platforms to build programmers' skills in interpreting research results and using evidence to guide program decisions and activities

  • Build skills among researchers and programmers in health impact metrics as outcome measurements and strategic decision-making tools

  • Develop training materials to build capacity of local researchers and partner organizations

  • Collaborate with countries to present and publish research findings

  • Qualifications:
  • Master's degree (MA, MPH, MSc) in public health, behavioral sciences, population studies, psychology, communication, or a related field preferred; PhD a plus

  • At least five years of professional experience in applied research, preferably with field experience in a developing country (experience in Asia is preferred)

  • Proven experience successfully building capacity in and mentoring researchers

  • Demonstrated ability to design, analyze, disseminate, and manage quantitative and qualitative behavioral research pertaining to HIV/AIDS, family planning, malaria, or child survival

  • Extensive knowledge of a statistical analysis program (SPSS, SAS, STATA or R) and the ability to conduct multivariate analysis

  • Ability to develop partnerships with internal senior management, external donors, and NGOs

  • Experience managing multiple studies and teams in a variety of environments

  • Excellent analysis and writing skills

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills

  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of time within the Asia, Pacific, and Eastern Europe region

  • Fluency in English required

  • Repertoire of desired expertise/skills includes:
  • Experience in market research or research with vulnerable populations

  • Experience analyzing qualitative data (in Atlas TI, Ethnograph, or similar program)

  • Experience with mapping studies and maintaining GIS

  • Experience programming PDAs

  • Experience developing learning materials

  • Health metrics analysis

  • Preference will be given to candidates with work experience in low-income countries, knowledge of public health issues and social marketing products. Familiarity with donor-funded international development projects preferred.
