General functions:
Under the general supervision of the Head of Office and Program Officer IOM Bern the incumbent will perform the following tasks:
  1. Run and manage a small IOM return counseling office at the reception center in Altstätten.
  2. Provide specific return counseling services and extensive information on AVR to all asylum seekers residing in the centre;
  3. Organize and facilitate a well prepared and safe journey home in co-operation with relevant Swiss governmental authorities (Federal Office of Migration and swissREPAT) while giving special support to vulnerable cases;
  4. Regularly liaise with IOM Bern when using its various AVR support services such as the “Return Information Fund” (RIF) and when booking flights via SIM;
  5. Liaise with all relevant Partners at the reception centers and ensure good information flows for all involved partners, especially with the designated focal point of the Federal Office for Migration (FOM) for the IOM REZ project;
  6. Prepare statistical analysis, narrative reports and communication materials as required;
  7. Perform general administrative duties within responsible reception centers;
  8. Replace IOM colleagues at reception centers during periods of absence as agreed;
  9. Undertake duty travel within Switzerland as well as abroad as agreed;
  10. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Desirable Qualifications Education / Experience and competencies  Basic formation in social sciences or equivalent work experience (i.e. studies in social work, training in psychological field);  Two years of relevant work experience (experience in return counselling an
advantage);  Strong communication and social competencies;  Ability to work independently, as well as in cooperation with other colleagues in an efficient and harmonious way;  Good understanding of migration issues and knowledge of Swiss Migration System is an advantage  Service oriented, drive for results and strong commitment;  Ability to prepare clear and concise reports; specific ability to draft papers in German and English as well as in French;  Demonstrated gender awareness and gender sensitivity  Good computer skills (MS-OFFICE, data-bases etc.)
Languages Fluent written and spoken German, French and English, any further language is an advantage.
