JOB TITLE: International Technical Advisor (full-time, permanent)

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is at the forefront of CAWST’s programs and global service-delivery. CAWST’s International Technical Advisors are assigned to countries and/or a region of the developing world and are responsible for developing strategies, conducting business development to identify clients, and delivering professional training and consulting services to build clients’ capacity to implement independent water and sanitation programs in their communities. The International Technical Advisor motivates and inspires action among organizations working in water and sanitation for the poor and very poor. This is a demanding cross-functional role that requires a considerable amount of travel to developing countries.

Location: Calgary, Alberta with International Travel

Responsibilities: • Deliver professional training and consulting services in water and sanitation to CAWST clients, developing their capacity to implement independent water and sanitation programs for the poor in developing countries • Develop country and regional strategies to support clients (government, local and international NGOs and UN Agencies) in countries of responsibility • Identify partners to establish Water Expertise and Training Centre(s); work with these partners to develop their institutional capacity to deliver training and consulting support services locally • Motivate and inspire action among organizations working with water and sanitation for the poor and very poor • Conduct business development to identify clients, collaborators and potential funders • Contribute to activities across CAWST including Education Program Development, Research Learning, Public Engagement and Business Services. • Develop personal skills and knowledge to maintain high levels of technical competence and professionalism • Other duties and responsibilities as required
Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant discipline (sciences, education or health) • Experience related to the responsibilities, in particular international development in water and sanitation, delivery of training and consulting support services and institutional capacity building • Bilingual in English and Spanish and/or French an asset • Able to work internationally based out of Calgary, Canada
This position is based in Canada, with approximately 50% of time spent in various countries, with either a regional or functional area of responsibility. This typically consists of 3-6 trips per year of 3-8 weeks duration.
