The position of Senior Health Officer, Immunization reflects the principle direction identified in the Strategic Operational Framework (SOF) for the IFRC Secretariat Global Health Team (GHT). The SOF guides the GHT to assist National Societies in the implementation of Strategy 2020 within their national context. Strategy 2020 is basing health programming into the context of resilience. The GHT also works to position National Societies and the overall Secretariat as key stakeholders in the international health arena.
The IFRC Global Health Team includes members of the global Secretariat: the IFRC Headquarters office in Geneva, and the Zonal Offices. These members are accountable to the GHT and the National Societies which they serve, and are responsible for implementing S2020 in the area of health. Global reference centres and expert groups are closely affiliated with the GHT.
The Senior Health Officer, Immunization will manage the IFRC's vaccination portfolio with a particular emphasis on further developing the link between routine immunization and community health. The file holder will maintain and further expand the IFRC's global role in three important global vaccination initiatives: Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Measles Initiative, and GAVI Alliance.
He/she will also explore options for further involvement in up and coming vaccination initiatives, such as the Inter-Agency Coordination Group (ICG) on yellow fever and meningitis
