Senior Electrical Engineer

1. g Report, experienced lessons after each previous completion project. General description

• Senior Electrical Engineer has overall responsibility for all electrical activity on the task force including engineering, design, and material functions. Senior Engineer will normally have 1 or more Engineers,
Designers, Checker and Drafter in his engineering and design group who to be reported to him directly. It is essential that Senior Engineer delegate certain technical and administrative tasks to their direct reports.
• The team approach is the desired Management style for task force work. Senior Engineer should function as the Electrical Team leader. He must monitor the effort closely and exert the necessary control to ensure that objectives are accomplished.

2. Key Responsibilities Include:
The following are general responsibilities for the Senior Engineer:
a) Attitude And Philosophy
Senior Engineer is the link between Engineering Manager and personnel who provide Client services. Senior Engineer must stay in tune with Management philosophy and goals so this is communicated in a positive manner to assigned personnel.
b) Communication
Senior Engineer should be the focal point for communication from and to Electrical personnel on the task force with Department Management, Project Management, the Client, and any third party. In general, Senior Engineer should be present during such discussions; Senior Engineer should be informed before or immediately after any discussion for which they were not present. Senior Engineer will attend a weekly task force meeting. Senior Engineer will conduct a weekly briefing for their direct reports. A needs list should be established by Senior Engineer.
c) Senior Engineer must follow and enforce communications procedures established for the project. It is usually necessary to impose certain controls on discussions with Suppliers and Clients.
d) Schedule And Budgets
Ensure that contract requirements are completed within the limits established by both schedule and budget.
e) Supervision
Provide day-to-day supervision of assigned personnel and ensure that all work performed meets applicable codes, standards, specifications, and established company and industry practices.
f) Backup Assignment
It is vital for PTSC to develop people for advancement to Seniorership positions. It is also vital that Senior Engineer have a person to stand in for them when they are absent. Therefore, Senior Engineer are responsible for having a backup person who is informed about the day-to-day activities on the project so that they can learn about supervisory duties and responsibilities, and so that they can continue with the Senior Engineer’s work during an absence. The selection of a backup person will be made jointly with the Electrical staff.
g) Working Rules
Ensure that all assigned personnel are familiar with and follow the company working rules. Special attention should be given to ensuring punctuality of working hours and lunch periods, with necessary corrective action taken as required.
h) Performance Reviews And Counseling
Provide fair, constructive, and timely reviews and counseling for all assigned personnel. Formal performance reviews are done at least once each year. This process is initiated by the Electrical staff. The formal review is not a substitute for timely counseling as required on a day-to-day basis. Engineers and designers deserve feedback on their performance, both good and bad. The phrase, "No news is good news," should not characterize the Senior Engineer / subordinate relationship.
i) Standards
Maintain an awareness of departmental needs in the development or improvement of standards and procedures.
j) Safety
Ensure that all designs produced, and working conditions for all personnel, comply with adequate safety rules.
k) Innovation
Employees should strive to find better and more effective ways of accomplishing their work. Senior Engineers should encourage innovation but must make certain that the quality of work is not compromised. However, Senior Engineers must not deviate from approved standards and procedures without authorization from their discipline Management.
Senior Engineers must be cautious of innovative ideas that violate basic practices. Sometimes, innovative but unsound approaches are offered as a solution to an inadequate budget.
l) Engineer, Checker and Designer Interface
While Senior Engineers are responsible for the total project, he must delegate a large part of the effort to the Engineer Design, Checker and the Designers. In order for the design group to function effectively, the group must be allowed a certain degree of autonomy.
3. With proven competency, prepare engineering design, specification and/or recommendations for variety of the following:

• Control systems
• Grounding
• Hazardous area classification
• Heat tracing systems
• High and medium low voltage power systems
• Lighting system
• Low tension building systems engineering
• Low voltage power
• Life safety systems
• Power systems analysis
• Commissioning of electrical systems
