Fairtrade International (FLO) unites the producer-, market- and business-facing activities within the Fairtrade Labelling system. FLO develops the Fairtrade Standards; promotes the empowerment of Fairtrade-certified producers by supporting them in gaining and maintaining Fairtrade Certification and capitalizing on market opportunities; and facilitates global Fairtrade markets, to optimise benefits for producers.
The Standards Unit at Fairtrade International (FLO) is responsible for setting and revising standards, including generic standards, product standards, Fairtrade Minimum Prices, and Fairtrade Premium levels. The Unit includes the Pricing Sub-Unit which is responsible for the development of Fairtrade Minimum Prices and Fairtrade Premium levels, and the Standards Sub-Unit which develops and revises generic standards as well as standards for new products and new certification areas. Both sub-units work to develop better methodological approaches to standard setting, as well as developing explanatory and training documents about Fairtrade standards.
