Description: InterAction, the largest alliance of U.S.-based international NGOs, is looking for a dynamic, energetic Web Editor who can make our newly designed website www.interaction.org sparkle when it is launched early in 2012. The Web Editor will be a core member of the communications unit, working closely with our web developer and other teams across InterAction. A self-starter, the new editor will help streamline content on the home and interior pages of the site in a lively, timely, accurate manner and in easily navigable form. As a membership organization, InterAction wants to showcase not only our own impact but also that of our nearly 200 member NGOs who focus on the world’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations.
Responsibilities: • Writes, edits, proofreads and copyedits content for the website • Plans and implements multimedia packages for site • Ensure that the site reflects current activities of InterAction and our members • Advise and assist staff on how best to use the website to communicate effectively • Collaborates with in-house web developer • Update website with latest news related to industry, also distribute via social media • Help develop content flow and editorial plan for website • Ensure InterAction brand is accurately presented • Take photographs and record videos of events to be loaded onto site via YouTube, Vimeo and Flickr channels • Build out special pages, including for annual InterAction Forum conference and other events • Knowledge of digital trends, including social media • Assist and coordinate with InterAction’s magazine website content and editing as needed • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned Qualifications: • Bachelors degree • At least three years relevant experience • Proven, excellent web writing skills • Strong visual and creative skills • Keen eye for appealing layout, with strong use of visuals to show impact • Experience managing a web presence • Understanding and interest in development and relief issues • Knowledge of Drupal system and familiarity with HTML • Knowledge and experience of new media technologies • Sound web editorial skills, including knowledge of web editing software, graphics and database driven websites • Knowledge of video editing software a plus • Self-starter, ability to work alone and in teams • Enthusiastic attitude towards innovation and new ways of communicating • Strong written and verbal communications skills a given. • Sense of humor and ability to work well with teams across the organization
