MAIN DUTIES The main role of the Engineer in this post is to conduct visual surveys in camps, to collect physical data relating to technical infrastructure, housing and shelters needed to generate a camp profile. In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures:
(A) Collect data and surveys already accumulated by the different programs and departments within a camp that relates to Urban Camp Profiles; (B) Collect data from other stakeholders such as, host governments, other UN agencies, and institutions that relate to the camp profiles; (C) Conduct on-site surveys/ visual assessments to collect data relating to spatial and physical aspects, examining horizontal growth, verticalization of camps, and evolution; (D) Identify missing data needed to complete a camp profile, and understand the urban fabric, potentials and challenges of each camp; (E) Collect essential data, such as aerial maps, land –use surveys, shelter assessments, accessibility, etc.; (F) Collect data relating to technical infrastructure, water supply networks, sewerage networks, road and rain water drainage, electrical networks, garbage disposal, and management of these systems; (G) Collect empirical data relating to camp demographics; (H) In some cases, conduct on-site micro studies to collect more specific missing information that helps understand the qualitative aspects of camp conditions; (I) Assist in conducting community workshops and focus groups, to obtain both quantitative and qualitative data; (J) Perform such other duties as may be required.
PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: • Engineering degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering or Architecture. • Minimum of 4 years experience in conducting surveys, data collection/ analysis, and technical reporting. Experience with community outreach is desirable. • Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
Desirable Qualifications • Possession of a valid driving license.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE: • Monthly Fee = $1000. • Contract Duration: One Year
EQUIVALENCY Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.
