Department:
The Marketing and Communications department was created in 2005 as a result of a strategic decision by Merlin to expand and develop its marketing and communication activities in order to significantly increase the amount of voluntary income raised by the charity and to communicate with a range of stakeholders. The department has three distinct areas: Individual Giving; Donor Partnerships; & Communications
Communications is responsible for raising the profile and reputation of Merlin with key stakeholders by managing media relations and integrated communications, including roll-out of a new brand and brand management from 2011. Since 2008, Communications has also been responsible for promoting Merlin as an effective campaigning voice on health systems and workers, helping to bring about policy change and raise funds for this work.
Main purpose of the role:
- To lead on brand awareness activity and ensure this enhances external public engagement working with other external facing teams.
- To ensure brand compliance across Merlin – that the public experiences one voice, look and feel of the brand.
- To ensure that publications, events or any other public-facing activity reaches the widest possible audience, as appropriate.
- To ensure cross-organisational planning, identification of key moments for the organisation and maximum impact gained.
Overall Objectives:
- Lead on the strategy for the brand including brand compliance across communication outputs such as external publications, products etc. working with internal team.
- Lead and manage cross team working to ensure appropriate dissemination plans are in place for all external Merlin information
- Project manage any brand awareness activity with external agencies and with internal teams
- Ensure that communications collateral is in place and accessible for the organisation (case-studies, photo library, film library)
- Maintain relationships with designated designers, copy editors and printers to ensure consistency across communications
- Raise the profile and reputation of Merlin brand with a range of audiences that might support the fundraising voluntary income goals via all activities.
- Ensure that key moments in the calendar year make the most impact for Merlin.
