www.globaljobscareer.blogspot.com The National Democratic Institute (NDI) has multiple openings for Program Assistants/Senior Program Assistants to support NDI's democratic development programs as part of the Middle East and North Africa regional team. The positions will provide administrative and programmatic support to democratic development programs in a variety of countries in the areas of political party development, civil society development, election processes and domestic monitoring, and international election observation. Under the close supervision of a Senior Manager, these positions will work as part of a team to contribute to program strategy and design, provide administrative and logistical support, draft program documents and reports including program and political analysis, monitor program budgets, and act as a contact person to field staff. The position is based in Washington, D.C.
Responsibilities
- Create/contribute to first drafts of training manuals, proposals, reports, memos, updates, work plans, newsletter articles, etc.
- Assist in organizing local and regional program conferences and workshops.
- Assist in editing field reports.
- Monitor political events throughout region.
- Assist in monitoring/reconciling assigned program budgets/expenditures.
- Provide administrative and occasionally logistical support to field offices and assigned regional staff, i.e. travel/tickets, reservations, training preparations.
- Maintain communication with field offices and NDI partner organizations overseas and in DC.
- Assist in recruiting/briefing qualified international consultants and/or volunteers for projects.
- Compile briefing books and program history binders.
Experience Required
- Bachelors Degree, preferably in International Relations or related subject. Masters preferred.
- Demonstrated coursework and/or internships (Program Assistant) or two (2) years relevant work experience in international development, community organizing, political campaigns, organizational development or legislative affairs (Senior Program Assistant).
- Demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of, regional political environment and people.
- Experience in international development, community organizing, political campaign, organizational development or legislative affairs preferable.
- Experience living in the Middle East or North Africa desirable.
- Experience writing/editing training materials, conducting participatory training and program evaluation desirable.
- Fluency in written and oral English required. Fluency in Arabic and/or French strongly preferred.
- High level of oral and written communication skills to effectively present information and respond to questions.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Working knowledge of basic budget and accounting procedures.
- Good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff, US and foreign government personnel, and NGO community.
- Capacity to work both independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Working knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet applications. HTML, database and graphic design skills a plus.
