BACKGROUND: IRC is present in Eastern Chad since 2004, providing support to Sudanese refugees. Two IRC sites are located Eastern Chad, with well established health programs in refugee camps: one in Bahai (45 minutes flight from Abéché) and another one in Hadjer Hadid (30 minutes flight from Abeche). Since September 3rd 2011, the IRC has been implementing an emergency cholera response in Abeche town, Eastern Chad.
SCOPE: IRC Chad is currently looking for a Nurse, based in town of Abeche, responsible for running a quality health care at the CTC (cholera Treatment Centre) set up within the regional hospital of Abeche. We need a person with excellent medical technical skills and someone who can work well within the overall context of harsh climatic and sometimes insecure conditions. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Coordinate patient screening at the Cholera Treatment Centre (CTC), set up treatment protocol and dispatch the patients; • Provide good quality health care at the CTC in close coordination with the rest of the health team in Abeche; • Follow the treatment protocol in use at the CTC; • Participate in the data/stats collection for reporting purposes; • Ensure universal precautions are adhered to when providing health care at the CTC; • Supervise national nurses in delivering good quality health care at the CTC; • Perform any other task requested by your supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS: • Hold a recognized Nurse diploma together with Training in Public health ; • Experience in prevention and treatment of cholera outbreak; • Professional experience in a similar position, preferably within humanitarian/ development programs; • French skills (written and spoken); local spoken Arabic dialect is an advantage; • Personal organizational skills, team working and ability to supervise colleagues; • Ability to live and work in hard climatic and security context and in a multicultural environment.
SPECIFIC SECURITY SITUATION/HOUSING : Staff in Chad must comply with all IRC Chad security policies and procedures applicable to international staff. Accommodation will be provided and will be as comfortable as the emergency circumstances allow. The position is unaccompanied.
