Web and New Media Intern
Gmedia Center is a Geneva based initiative whose overall objective is to increase the good governance, democracy and accountability of State actors by empowering media as key players within civil society. In addition, Gmedia Center’s focus is to enhance media human rights awareness and improve the independent reporting of the human rights abuses and violations.

Structured around the organization of several human rights workshops for journalists in Geneva, Gmedia Center’s Human Rights programme is designed to increase media’s access to the sessions of the Human Rights Council, Treaty bodies, the relevant human rights actors and materials, and to ensure quality coverage of human rights issues, reports and recommendations.

Gmedia Center is seeking a Web and New Media Intern who, under the direction of the Director of Communication and Finance, will guide the organization's use of online communications to promote its goals and ensure that Gmedia Center's website, social-media presence, and email campaigns project a clear, consistent and compelling organizational voice. The Web and New Media Intern will be responsible for contributing to the creation and implementation of the organization’s online strategy that engages, retains, and grows the media network base for Gmedia Center and increases the organization's footprint and impact. www.globaljobscareer.blogspot.com
As a member of the Gmedia Center Team, the Web and New Media Intern will work closely with other members of the organization to ensure online communications are fully integrated with other communications strategies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Web
• Maintain Gmedia Center’s website as a cutting edge communications and networking tool.
• Engage in and coordinate usability testing.
• Perform search engine optimization and maximize visibility of site via cross postings and other strategies.
Online Advocacy
• Integrate new media campaigns to engage supporters and generate public attention around key advocacy goals.
• Maintain and update Gmedia Center’s calendar of events.
• Propose and create new initiatives for advocacy campaigns, online fundraising appeals, a monthly e-newsletter, and other content.www.globaljobscareer.blogspot.com
• Understand the news and political environment and ensure that Gmedia Center is engaged with online discussions and news cycles to take advantage of opportunities for feeding the online community.
Social Networks
• Maintain and update content for the Gmedia Community, integrated Facebook page, and Twitter account.
• Monitor and contribute to discussion groups and online publications.
Other
• Cultivate relationships with Gmedia Community members, media, other nonprofit organizations, state and non-state actors, and donors to support outreach efforts.
• Assist in the development of documents, advocacy videos, widgets, surveys, and other materials to advance online advocacy.
• Assure the quality of online content.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Experience building online audiences and communities using new media to advance advocacy goals.
• Excellent English writing and editing skills.
• Advanced knowledge of social media and the tools that accompany it.
• Experience in the production, editing and publishing of new media content.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to be flexible and meet deadlines.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and collaborative ability.
Desirable:
• Interest in and familiarity with substantive issues of human rights.
• Passion for developing relations between media and human rights actors.
• Understanding of search-engine optimization.
• Familiarity with online analytic tools.
• Online production experience using open source technologies, in particular, Joomla, JomSocial, and cPanel.
• Fluency or knowledge of multiple languages.
ANNUAL SALARY: This is an unpaid internship.
