The National Democratic Institute (NDI) seeks a Senior Program Officer for the Political Parties Team to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of political party programs worldwide. The position is based in Washington D.C.
Responsibilities:
- Provides advice on political party development to regional team members and country offices, including program strategy, implementation and evaluation;
- Conducts comparative research and drafts resources and publications on political party development;
- Draft, proofreads and edits political party team documents including internal newsletters on political party programming;
- Monitors international trends in political party programming;
- Occasionally participates in country programs and program assessments;
- Maintains information on current/potential experts and trainers and helps to identify and recruit new resource persons;
- Gathers and distributes new materials for use in political party programs;
- Maintains communication with NDI partner organizations overseas, as well as with NDI regional and functional teams;
- Organizes and conducts internal training workshops on political party program approaches and experiences;
- Monitors assigned program budgets, providing full, accurate and timely accounting of all funds;
- Attends occasional conferences and seminars regarding issues in political party development;
- Assists in supervising, planning and directing work of junior staff on the team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in International Relations, Comparative Politics or related subject; graduate degree preferred;
- Minimum of six (6) years relevant work experience in international development, political campaigns/party organizing, at the local, state or national level; political or issue campaigns; and/or political consulting or equivalent experience at NDI;
- Experience living and working outside the U.S. preferred;
- Experience in program design, strategic planning and monitoring and evaluation;
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to interact effectively with all levels of headquarters and field-based staff, political party practitioners and international partners;
- Working knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet applications;
- Ability to follow through on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; deadline oriented;
- Detail oriented;
- Database, HTML skills and proficiency with other information communication technologies (ICT) desired;
- Superior writing skills;
- Foreign language ability (French, Spanish or other major international language) preferred.
