Project Director K4H


General Description: The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Programs (CCP) seeks a highly experienced Project Director to lead and manage the Knowledge for Health (K4H)project,(please visit http://www.k4health.org/about to learn more about the project). The ideal candidate will have Knowledge Management (KM) expertise, project leadership of USAID-funded reproductive health/family planning or related public health projects. Requires excellent leadership, management, supervisory, interpersonal and strategic planning skills. Lead continuing development of the K4H Project. Assure that the K4H team meets commitments to USAID for all the deliverables of K4Health Project. Function as chief, though not sole, liaison and representative of K4H to USAID and the broader international health community. Apply personal international experience from working in a range of countries to create and maintain a client-centered orientation and project culture. Assure effective and efficient management and staffing structure for the project. Serve on the Leadership Team of CCP. Oversee the financial management of K4H. Develop and/or oversee K4H relationships with other organizations for Knowledge Management/Knowledge Sharing related activities (e.g., KM Working Group, Implementing Best Practices (IBP), U.S. Peace Corps, IT companies). Attend to both the daily and long-term functioning of relationships among the K4H partners (CCP, FHI, MSH). Hire appropriate staff for key and other positions within K4H and structure job assignments and working relationships that maximize the use of skills. Recognize, adapt and bring to scale appropriate technological solutions to KM challenges. Lead the K4H Executive Team which includes the Deputy Project Director, KM Advisor, and others. Inspire and facilitate collaboration, innovation, and initiative among K4H staff. Provide vision, mission, and direction to the K4H Project. Expand K4H’s leadership in the field of knowledge management for international public health. Serve as high-level contact and facilitator between K4H and partners to foster collaborations.
Qualifications: Master's degree in related field required, preferably public health, development, health communications, or a knowledge management related discipline. Ten years related experience required. Additional relevant experience and/or training may substitute for some education. Expert knowledge and extensive experience in management of USAID-funded projects. Extensive experience in management of KM and/or information technology (IT) projects, including experience in KM project development and supervision. Expert knowledge of family planning, reproductive health, and related issues. Experience managing a staff of 10 or more and annual project budgets of at least $3 million dollars. Proven track record of building external partnerships. Ability to articulate a compelling and realistic vision of KM’s current and future impact on health. Knowledge and expertise in Health and/or social networking project design and implementation is a plus. Excellent leadership, management, supervisory, and strategic planning skills. Excellent communication, research, writing, and editing skills. Ability to analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative information. FSI level 4 or equivalent in Spanish or French desirable. Professional residence in a low-income country with long-term residential work experience in Africa highly desirable. Professional residence in a developing country with long-term residential work experience in Africa highly desirable. This position is a designated Key Person position on a Cooperative Agreement between the University and the US Agency for International Development.
