Action Research is vital to inform Plan’s programmes. The aim is to develop a research agenda, which will enhance evidence based programming and advocacy and contribute to increasing Plan’s visibility and credibility in the sector.
About the role •Lead and line manage staff in the Research and Knowledge Management Team. •Develop a clearly identified action research agenda, with aligned work plans for the Research and Knowledge Management team. •To map out, coordinate and disseminate research from across the organisation to maximise learning and evidence based programming within the organisation. •To further enhance the use and research of Plan’s 1.49 million Sponsored Children Database. •To set up longitudinal studies, as part of Plan’s Sponsorship Data. •To identify research opportunities within Plan. •To produce a consistent body of timely, high quality research and build a publication record for Plan. •To strengthen the research capacity across Plan. •To represent or arrange representation for Plan on relevant Research forums. •To build strong linkages with key universities and research institutes. •To contribute to and strengthen the networking of researchers and evaluators within Plan. •Collaborate with other Programme Department teams on specific global research and evaluation initiatives. •To keep abreast of external development research, trends and methodologies. •To ensure that all research undertaken on behalf of Plan, externally or internally, are executed in accordance with the overall aims of the organisation and in line with Plan’s policies and procedures. •To participate in training and other activities as requested by the organisation.
About you •PhD in development (preferable Education or Gender and having used a mixed research method). •Proven Publication record in the relevant area. •Proven ability to execute a research plan. •Demonstrable experience of using research to inform development programming. •Understanding of rights based programming and international development programme practice. •Proven ability to manage research and knowledge management staff. •Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures. •Up-to-date knowledge and experience of data analysis techniques/ software packages, plus MS Office and Internet.
Languages Excellent writing and editing skills in English are essential. An additional language (French or Spanish) is preferable.
Location and Travel The role will be based at Plans International Headquarters in Woking Surrey with International Travel
