TERMS OF REFERENCE PROOFREADING “IMMUNIZATION SUMMARY: A STATISTICAL REFERENCE CONTAINING DATA THROUGH 2010” 1. Background WHO and UNICEF jointly produce an annual series of estimates of immunization coverage in all 194 member states and territories. The estimates are produced by a Joint Working Group on Immunization, composed of the representatives of both agencies. Since 2004, UNICEF has been publishing an Immunization Summary (http://www.childinfo.org/files/32775_UNICEF.pdf) containing these estimates together with certain demographic and programmatic data. The eighth edition of the publication is currently being prepared. Given the publication’s intended use as a statistical reference, it is imperative to ensure the accuracy of its contents. 2. Purpose The purpose of this consultancy is to complete the proofreading and quality control of the contents of the newest edition of the Immunization Summary, to be published in 2011. 3. Expected Results A final copyedited copy of “Immunization Summary: a statistical reference containing data through 2010”. 4. Duration One month and 10 days (from September 1, 2011 through October 10, 2011). 5. Activities, resources, deadlines The scope of this work is specific and requires working in coordination with the UNICEF responsible officer and the printer’s staff. Work will be divided into three stages, with a contingent fourth stage. The initial proofreading will prepare the materials for submission to the printer for design and layout. This stage must be completed no later than September 09, 2011 (8 workdays). The second round of proofreading will correct the first printer’s draft of the Immunization Summary. The consultant will examine all data items on every individual country page and correct any errors by continuous refinement through communication with the UNICEF responsible officer until the corrections are ready to be sent to the printer. This stage must be completed no later than September 28, 2011 (7 workdays). The third round of proofreading will review the printer’s second proof. The consultant will correct any errors by continuous refinement through communication with UNICEF until a final draft is ready to be sent to press. This stage must be completed no later than October 05, 2011 (2 workdays). If the three rounds of proofreading will have proven insufficient to eliminate printer’s errors, the consultant will conduct a contingent fourth round to eliminate any remaining errors through continuous refinement, until the draft is print-ready (2 workdays). No travel or continuous presence at the UNICEF offices is required for this job. 6.
