The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home.
BACKGROUND: The Information Technology department is responsible for the design and implementation of the IRC’s global IT strategy, including the Global WAN, desktop and network support, and application development. The team consists of 19 staff, 2 of whom are based in Nairobi. The challenge of delivering IT services to remote locations in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, in addition to 22 offices across the US, is what makes this role particularly challenging. The mission of the IRC – to bring refugees from harm to home - is what makes the role so rewarding. The ideal candidate will be motivated and energized by both.

Working very closely with and reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, he/she will provide senior technical leadership in the design, implementation, and management of the global WAN, including standards for all network, desktop, and server technologies. He/she will be focused on delivering a high quality of service to the global IRC staff, and providing a stable and supportable environment for all users in NY, across the US, and around the world. This critical IT position will also assist in IRC’s network planning, cost/benefit decisions and project management for deployments and will be a key voice for determining how IT is viewed. As one of two internal managers of IRC’s IT dept, the Director of Global Infrastructure will supervise a team of 5, as well as consultants and temporary staff. In addition, the Director of Global Infrastructure will need to develop and maintain strong working relationships with IRC departments/office managers, IT contractors and key vendors.
